The Toy Museum of Catalonia contains a section devoted to the childhood and adolescence of Salvador Dalí, with photos of the family, his school studies, his first exhibitions, etc. The most outstanding piece is Don Osito Marquina, the Dalí brothers’ favourite toy, named like that due to the creativity of the poet Federico García Lorca.
Even though the city of Figueres was distant of the war front prior to the concluding months of the Spanish Civil War, the armed conflict affected the city since the very first moment.
The day by day of its citizens utterly changed and two clashing sides were created. Hopelessly, the city’s physiognomy had already switched.

Figueres doesn’t have its own airport but it can be reached from the nearest Catalan ones: Girona-Costa Brava Airport (37 km away) and Barcelona-El Prat Airport (154 km away).
There’s a bus route that runs between the two airports and Figueres. You can also use the rail connections, although they involve a change of means of transport in the centre of Girona or Barcelona.
Figueres has two railway stations. The conventional railway station, at which the commuter lines with connections to a large part of Catalonia arrive, is located in the city centre.
The high-speed station connects Figueres with Barcelona and Madrid on the one hand and with Paris and several French cities on the other. This station is located a kilometre and a half from the city centre and provides a shuttle bus service coordinated with the arrival of each train, as well as a fleet of taxis.
The coach station is located next to the conventional railway station beside the centre of Figueres. It brings together coaches that cover lines around the county, province (connections with the whole of the Costa Brava) and Catalonia and others that provide international connections.
Figueres is easily accessible by road. It’s only half an hour from Girona and the border with France and an hour and a half from Barcelona via the N-II road or AP-7 motorway (exits 3 and 4).
The N-260 road connects the city with the coast (Llançà and Portbou) to the north-east and the interior and the Pyrenees (Garrotxa) to the west. It can also be reached from the area of the Bay of Roses and El Cap de Creus along the C-260 road.
There are several routes that connect the city with the territory, such as the Figueres-Roses cycle tourism axis, the Way of Saint James (from La Jonquera to Girona) and the Bicitranscat project currently undergoing implementation to create a route for cyclists between Figueres and Perpignan. These are linked to other networks such as the Pirinexus and different circular cycling circuits to allow you to discover the county.
The Figueres Tourist Information Office is located in the city centre, a few metres from Salvador Dalí’s family home, the Rambla and the Dalí Theatre-Museum. The building that houses it was the former municipal slaughterhouse, an outstanding piece of Catalan modernism. Inside it there is also a temporary exhibition room for contemporary art and culture managed by the Empordà Museum.
The office staff provide personalised assistance for visitors from here and further afield in several languages, with tourist information and proposals for activities for finding out more about the city, the county and Catalonia.
The office has free Wi-Fi and a touch screen with an internet connection for tourist-related enquiries about Figueres and the county. Outside it an interactive touch totem provides a 24-hour service.

Private coaches can also park at the Coach Station or in the Saba-Garrigal private car park next to the Dalí Theatre-Museum.

Figueres has a fleet of taxis, with fixed stops on the central Rambla, the conventional train station and the AVE Figueres-Vilafant station.
Figueres has several bicycle rental companies.
Figueres has two municipal electric vehicle charging points, in Plaça Creu de la Mà and Plaça Josep Tarradellas.
To charge your car for free you have to sign up for the “Mobilitat Figueres” card (you must register at the FISERSA offices), the mobile application of the electric chargers or the contactless card for interoperability with other municipalities.
